Hans Ottar Lindberg ( born August 1, 1981 in Hoje Taastrup, Denmark ) is a Danish handball player.

Career

In the club

Lindberg played in his childhood football and was active as a left-back in the highest Danish Youth League. Handball at first he tried out for a month and was persuaded later from a friend to additionally begin with the handball matches. Lindberg was invited for Sichtungsmaßnahmen of football and handball association. As Lindberg was screened in football, he opted for the sport of handball.

Lindberg played from the age of 14 at the Danish club Høj Ølstykke. Then he ran for six years for Team Helsinge, with their men's team he competed in the Håndboldligaen. Between 2005 and 2007 he was the Danish first division club Viborg HK under contract. In the season 2006/ 07 he was charged with 187 goals in 26 games top scorer in the Danish League and failed with Viborg in the final of the Danish Championship at GOG Svendborg TGI.

In 2007, Lindberg moved to German Bundesliga side HSV Hamburg. The obligation Lindberg by the HSV Hamburg there was in Danish media rumors that the THW Kiel would have had interest in Lindberg and had thereby lost the race for national player Hans Lindberg against HSV. In the National Team

Lindberg belongs since 2003 to the cadres of the Danish national team, for whom he previously played 187 internationals. The first major tournament in which Lindberg took part, was the 2007 World Championships, where he won the bronze medal. A year later, the 1.88 m long left-hander celebrated his maiden title at the European Championships. In the summer of 2008, he first participated at the Olympic Games in Athens. In the quarterfinals, he retired with the Danish selection surprisingly against South Korea. The following tournaments at the 2009 World Championships and the 2010 European Championships he also missed a medal rank.

Lindberg was with Denmark at the World Cup 2011 in the final and failed there in the extension on the defending champion France. A year later, he won his second European title in Serbia. At the Olympic Games in London was once again in the quarter-final stage. 2013 reached Lindberg sovereign his second World Cup final, in which the host Denmark Spain clearly defeated. At the European Championships in 2014 in his own country, he was Vice-European Champion.

Lindberg's parents are from Icelandic town Hafnarfjörður and emigrated at the age of 22 years from Denmark. His mother Sigrún Sigurðardóttir ran for the Icelandic football and handball team.
