Hans Maier (rower)

Hans Maier ( born June 13, 1909 in Mannheim, † March 6, 1943 at the Mareth Line in Tunisia ) was a German rower, who participated in three Olympic Games and won two medals.

Hans Maier rowed at the Mannheimer rowing club Amicitia under coach Fritz Gwinner. From 1928 to 1931, the Mannheim Roller won four times in a row at the German Championship. At the Olympic Games in 1928 aft finished fifth. From 1929 to 1931 four rowers from the back while also each won the German championship in the coxless four, alongside Hans Maier were Karl Aletter and Ernst Gaber in all three years, while 1931 Walter Flinsch took over the position of Hermann Herbold. Also appeared in the Olympics in 1932 Aletter, Gaber, Flinsch and Maier in four and won the silver medal behind the British boat to Jack Beresford. 1933 Karl won Aletter, Ernst Gaber, Hans -Wolfgang Heidland and John Doe once again the German Cup and occupied together with Karl Batz second place in the four with coxswain. Three years later won a Mannheim- Ludwigshafen rowing community with Hans Maier, Walter Volle, Ernst Gaber, Paul Söllner ( Ludwig Ruderverein ) and helmsman Fritz Bauer the German title in foursomes with. At the Olympic Games in 1936, the German boats were victorious in five of seven boat classes, including the four with coxswain, who won on the boat from Switzerland lead with eight seconds.

Hans Maier fell in World War II in the fighting on the Mareth Line in Tunisia.
