Hans Multscher

Hans Multscher (* 1400 in Reichenhofen, today Leutkirch im Allgäu, † 1467 in Ulm ) was a German sculptor and painter.

Life

After studying in his native Allgäu he learned during his years of travel ( with Claus Sluter? ) The artistic innovations of Northern France and the Netherlands know. 1427 he was admitted as a free citizen in Ulm. Importance

Among the large number of talented, mostly nameless artists of the 15th century stands out as Multscher strong personality who was able to develop continuously over decades on. To 1429 he produced the " Man of Sorrows " at the west portal of the Ulmer Münster. More altars Mult Schers are Landsberger Altar ( 1437), the Holy Cross altar Thaler (1450, Altheim at Riedlingen ) and the altar in Sterzing ( South Tyrol).
