Hans Niessl

Hans Niessl ( born June 12, 1951 in Zurndorf, Burgenland ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ). Since 2000 he is Governor of Burgenland.

Life

Hans Niessl worked as a secondary school teacher. He was from 1984 to 2000, in 1987 as mayor, the municipal council of churches woman. From 1996 to 2000 he served as an MP from 1999 to 2000, as club chairman of the SPÖ in Burgenland Landtag. He is deputy national chairman of the SPÖ and chairman of the SPÖ Burgenland.

In the regional elections on 9 October 2005, the SPÖ achieved under Hans Niessl a historic election success and has won for the first time since the 80s with over 52 % of the votes and the absolute majority of seats.

Niessl is married and has a son from this marriage.

  • 2003: Grand Decoration of Honour for Services to the city of Vienna with the Stars
  • 2004: Grand Silver Medal with Ribbon for Services to the Republic of Austria
  • 2008: Honorary doctorate from the European University of Belgrade
  • 2011: Grand Gold Medal with Ribbon for Services to the Republic of Austria ( presentation on March 3, 2011)
  • 2011: Honorary Ring of the Township woman churches and honorary citizen of the community
  • 2012: Great Cross of Merit of the Austrian Federal Fire Brigade Association
