Political positions

Hans -Olaf Henkel represents liberal or supply- political positions in his writings and public appearances. He advocates for globalization, the federalism reform, for " less government in the state," against " egalitarianism " and for " more competition ". Regarding globalization, he lectures frequently used in the image of a "sympathetic triangle " whose sides are for the market economy, democracy and human rights. He is responsible for the minimization of the welfare state and for the reduction of taxes. The previous objective of developing the European monetary union is not conducive to the integration of Europe, but leads his opinion rather a kind of " EUSSR ."

He is frequently interviewed and guest in political talk shows and radio interviews as well as a founding member of the Convention for Germany ( which he in January 2014 left due to its candidacy for the European Parliament), one of major corporations, foundations and private -sponsored association, which under the leadership of Old Federal President Roman Herzog uses its own account for the " reform of the reform capacity " of Germany. He is a regular guest author at Reuters ( Monday column " Henkel dry " ), the Focus, the world and the Hamburg evening paper. In addition, he was an author at the picture and the boys freedom.

In order to achieve stable government relations in a five-party system, called Henkel 2008, the introduction of majority voting in the Federal Republic of Germany.

In October 2009, Henkel thanked the former board member of the Bundesbank's Thilo Sarrazin for his controversial interview in the magazine Lettre International in an open letter. So wrote Henkel that he is " without any ifs and buts support statements " and he " is not even in the diction out " 've Sarrazin.

In November 2010, Henkel suggested in a Focus article, (first Greece, then Ireland and Spain) split due to the debt crisis in several European countries the euro into two currencies:

  • A "hard " North- Euro - next to him should countries such as Germany, the Benelux countries, Austria, Finland and Ireland are - here the " adherence to monetary stability and financial discipline " would be maintained - as well as
  • A "soft" southern euro, led by France, congruent to the "Output joy and currency technical talent for improvisation " of these countries.

The introduction of a separate euro Be moved these countries in a position to take inflation into account, in order to keep their economies running or boost. In this paper Henkel critical of the government and Chancellor Merkel:

  • The introduction of the euro rescue package he calls a " cloak-and- dagger operation ".
  • Henkel raises them to the breach of treaties and agreements of previous governments and massive violations of the law before and calls this an " coup ".

Henkel initially supported the National Association of Free electorate, when it was still against the euro. He commented in his column "Henkel dry" critical to the euro bailout policy of the Federal Government. Together with Hubert Aiwanger and Stephan Werhahn he wanted to lead the Free Voters in 2013 the Bundestag. In the early federal election in 2005, he supported the FDP, which he, however, due to their " departure from the principle of liberalism " no future certified in December 2011.

Henkel is a founding member of the euro critical alliance choice alternative in 2013, from which the political party emerged alternative for Germany ( AfD ). He stated in March 2013, no member of the party will want to Alternative for Germany ( AfD ) to support their goals, however. In January 2014 it was announced that Henkel few weeks AfD had previously joined. He was nominated at number two in the candidate list of the AfD for the European elections in 2014. In addition, he was elected on a Congress of the alternative for Germany in March as deputy speaker of the AfD.

Criticism

Early February 2010, criticized the U.S. economist James K. Galbraith Henkel's statement that no one had seen before the global financial crisis from 2007. Galbraith threw Henkel before bigotry and incompetence, as at least three economic schools had warned before the crisis. He also disagreed with Henkel's thesis that the crisis had been triggered by " do-gooders " of American politicians. Henkel wrote then a rebuttal in which he as examples of his thesis that misguided do-gooders for the U.S. housing bubble and thus led to the global financial crisis had, the home ownership assistance programs under Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, and the prohibition of redlining in the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 cites under Jimmy Carter. The latter prevented the banks from different when assessing the creditworthiness between respective neighborhoods wealthier residents and slums.

William K. Black, a professor of economics and law at the University of Missouri- Kansas City, then called on in an open letter to the then chairman of Bank of America, Walter E. Massey, that the " racist bank manager " Hans -Olaf Henkel was dismissed. Black points out that redlining was actually already prohibited by the Civil Rights Act of 1968. It is absurd to think that this law have triggered a financial crisis 30 years later suddenly. Also, it was "not commonplace to read nostalgic about the good old racist times when working government and economy go hand in hand in preventing the extension of loans to blacks". Henkel also became president of the Federation of German industry with its policy recommendations of deregulation to one of the German architects of the financial crisis.
