Hans Pietsch

Hans Reinhard Pietsch ( born September 27, 1968 in Bremen, † 16 January 2003 Amatitlán, Guatemala ) was the best contemporary German Go player.

After his civil service Hans Pietsch studied Sinology economy. Since the age of 10 he was playing Go. In a tournament, he learned the Japanese Go player Chizu Kobayashi know that it had set itself the task of making Go in the western part of the world known. She invited him to come to go study in Japan.

1988 Pietsch was German champion in Go. Pietsch broke off his studies and went to Japan in 1990. He was the only German professional players of the Japanese Nihon Ki- in Berufsgoverbandes. He won the 4th Dan title.

On 16 January 2003 was the victim of an armed robbery Hans Pietsch in Guatemala. He was on a promotional tour of Cuba, Guatemala and Mexico, there to make the game of Go known.

The Nihon Ki- in gave Hans Pietsch posthumously 6th Dan title. Go 4 School organizes an annual " Hans Pietsch Memorial" Championship, which is dedicated to the memory of Hans Pietsch.
