Hans Riegel

Johannes Peter " Hans " Riegel ( born March 10, 1923 in Bonn, † October 15, 2013 ibid ) was born as the first son of Mr and Mrs Gertrude and Hans Riegel. His father was the founder of the company Haribo. He took over in 1946 along with his brother Paul ( 1926-2009 ) the management of the company and built it from the confectionery group.

Life

After primary school, Hans Riegel attended the Aloisiuskolleg in Bad Godesberg, where he took the Abitur. Only in 1944 he was drafted for military service. He got into American captivity, from which he returned in 1946. After his graduation bolt worked in the company where he was responsible for shipping and marketing, and studied in parallel at the University of Bonn, Economics and was there in 1951 received his doctorate with a thesis on the development of the world sugar economy during and after the 2nd World War.

1953 bar was elected the first president of the company founded at that time German Badminton Association, after he had become the same weekend first German badminton champions in men's doubles. In the same year he built the first German in Bonn badminton hall ( Haribo Center). 1954 and 1955, he won two more championship titles in badminton, this time in mixed doubles with Louise Stuch -Schmitz. In 1956 he published the "Manual of Badminton Sports" along with Josef Holthausen. He founded the same year the trophy named after him, the since that time the German team champion in badminton receives.

In May 2008, Warren Buffett Germany and Haribo paid a visit to join the family business. However, at this time already 85 years old and childless bolt had no interest in joining the U.S. investor. Riegel led the company Haribo since the death of his brother Paul Riegel in 2009 together with his nephew Hans Arndt bolt and Hans Guido Riegel.

In July 2013, bolt brain surgery had to undergo, when he was a benign brain tumor removed. During the rehabilitation bolt died on October 15, 2013 at the age of 90 years due to heart failure. His final resting place he found in the family grave at the Bonn South Cemetery.

Since 1991, Riegel had Austrian citizenship. Austria was the adopted home of bars, where the avid hunter had an estate with hunting in Hieflau (Styria ). In October 2009, bolt from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honour.

In 2009 he also received the Grand Gold Decoration for Services to the Republic of Austria.

Dr. Hans Riegel Specialists prices

Since 2006, Dr. Hans Riegel Foundation in cooperation with the Rheinische Friedrich- Wilhelms-Universität Bonn gives the Dr. Hans Riegel Specialists prices. With them particularly good scientific work of students of secondary education will be awarded in various scientific subjects.

Participation is open to all students who have a skilled work or school thesis or a particular achievement in the subjects of biology, chemistry, geography, mathematics or physics created or achieved.

From the school year 2010/11 the schools of the winners are also awarded a special prize.

Since the school year 2009/ 10, this Dr. Hans Riegel Specialists prices at German universities in Augsburg, University Berlin, RU Bochum, Bonn, TU Dresden, Dusseldorf, Erlangen, Mainz, University of Munich, Münster ( ICBF ) and Oldenburg will be awarded. There is also this competition since 2010, at the Austrian universities of Linz and Graz. Since 2011 also write the Universities of Vienna and Salzburg from the competition.
