Hans Ulrich Franck

Hans Ulrich Franck ( * 1590/95 in Kaufbeuren; † autumn 1675 in Augsburg ) was a German painter, draftsman and etcher.

Life

Franck likely to be born 1590-1595. The specified on the portrait engraving by G. Chr Kilian birth in 1603 can hardly be true, as Franck married after a Kaufbeurer Council Minutes Book ( Kaufbeuren, City Archives, B 4) in 1615 already. 1630 siginiert Franck on an altarpiece in Kaufbeuren / Oberbeuren as " Mahler and organist in Kaufbeuren ". As a widower with seven children moved Franck in 1637 to Augsburg, where he, despite repeated protests of the painters' guild as " guet Catholic champion " the civil rights acquired on 30 October in 1638 and lived there until his death in 1675.

His father was the Kaufbeurer painter, church wardens and city architect Daniel heritage, called Franckh, born in 1573, worked in 1603; his mother was Barbara Dieffstötterin, widowed Rembold.

His son Franz Friedrich Franck (1627-1687) was also a painter.

Work

In addition to lesser-known drawings and paintings Franck created in 1643 and from 1655 to 1656, the 25 etchings comprehensive impact horrors of the Thirty Years' War, the reputation of a " Grimmelshausenmuseum of Fine Art " won him.
