Hans van Manen

Hans van Manen ( born July 11, 1932 in Nieuwer - Amstel ) is a Dutch choreographer.

In 1960 he was one of the founding members of the Nederlands Dans Theater and was its artistic director from 1961 to 1970. He then worked as a freelancer and 1974-1987 for the Dutch National Ballet.

He is regarded as one of the great innovators of European ballet. His classical, developed from the music dance language could be emancipated from his example George Balanchine. Men and women act equally in his choreography.

Van Manen's work includes about 90 choreographies.
