The Hans Walter Wild Stadium is the municipal stadium of the city of Bayreuth. It was named after the old Lord Mayor Hans Walter Wild, which is considered as a patron of local sports in Bayreuth.

History

It was built as Municipal Stadium in 1967 include as part of a sports park to the today an indoor swimming pool, an ice rink and the multifunctional Oberfrankenhalle (1988). In 1974, the stadium was expanded by a covered grandstand seat. In 2002 the re-appointment by the Mayor of Bayreuth Hans Walter Wild ( 1958-88 ), who was a great promoter of sports and the construction of the sports park substantially involved. Has a capacity of 21,500 spectators, of which 3,500 seats and 18,000 standing places.

Use

On May 23, 1974, the stadium was inaugurated with a friendly match against SpVgg Kickers Offenbach the grandstand. Since it serves the club as a regular venue, which was renovated in 2005 to allow a game mode in the Regionalliga. The attendance record was set in 1979, when 22,500 spectators attended by a rise in the 1st Bundesliga match against Bayer 05 Uerdingen. A year later, played before 18,000 spectators SpVgg Bayreuth against Bayern Munich in the DFB - Pokal and won 1-0.

There were also international matches of the German national team B and the ladies in the national stadium. On 30 May 2010 was conducted with the game Mexico against Gambia for the first time an A- national team international match of the men in the stadium.

An important function satisfies the stadium as a practice facility for the physical education of the adjacent schools.

The stadium was also used in the context of open-air festivals. Stars like Bon Jovi, Peter Maffay, Pur, Rod Stewart and Michael Jackson have already visited.

After a long break the stadium on September 6, 2013 were back for an open air the " Toten Hosen" used. Here, more than 26,000 tickets have been sold ( including 3,000 in the stands ). The concert was so completely sold out.

Remodeling plans

The back straight of the stadium should be reconsidered, but this modification did not materialize. In November 2008, an expansion of Hans Walter Wild Stadium into a event arena was considered the Bayreuth Mayor Michael Hohl.
