Hans Weiditz

Hans Weiditz (* 1500 in Strasbourg, † 1536 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German graphic artist for woodcuts.

The phylogenetic relationship of Hans Weiditz and his brother Christoph Weiditz to the sculptor Hans Wydyz is not released. He was born in Strasbourg and learned in the workshop Hans Burgkmair the Elder in Augsburg, where he later created many book illustrations for classical, scientific and religious books. His prints were mostly signed; they reveal high level of skill and their own personal style.

The herb books of the father of botany Otto Brunfels were illustrated from 1530 by Hans Weiditz. Was discovered in 1930 Walther Rytz in the Bernese Botanical Institute Plant watercolors, which he could attribute Weiditz. They were made in 1529 and served as templates for the woodcuts in Brunfels herbals.
