Hans Zerny

Hans Zerny ( born June 11, 1887 in Vienna Waehring, † September 14, 1945 in Vienna ) was an Austrian entomologist and lepidopterist.

Life

Zernys father was an elementary school teacher and first taught him even before he went to public schools. In 1908 he passed his Matura. Already collected during school time and he groomed plants and animals and published his first note in the Leipzig insects Exchange.

He studied ten semesters natural sciences with an emphasis in zoology at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Vienna. During this time he was first time in 1909. At the Zoological Station in Trieste, where he met Franz Maidl

After the graduation Zerny entered on April 20, 1912, a site at the Imperial Natural History Museum his service to that would be his work, up to his death. His work focus was scientific Neuroptera, Odonata and Diptera collections that he supervised scientifically and administratively. After the retirement of the privy councilor Hans Rebel he also took over its responsibilities.
