Hanshin
Hanshin (Japanese阪神) is composed of the second kanji of Ōsaka (大阪) and the first of Kobe (神 戸) to denote a central area in Kansai with and between the two cities.
The area between the town centers Sannomiya ( Kobe ) and Umeda ( Osaka ) is called Hanshinkan (阪神 间).
The term is found among others in the name of:
- Of the baseball team Hanshin Tigers,
- The railway company Hanshin Denki tetsudō with a line between the two cities,
- The Hanshin department store group Depāto
- Several freeways in the area of both cities ( Hanshin Kosoku No. 1 to No. 17 and No. 31) and in Kyoto,
- The common name Hanshin - Awaji great earthquake disaster Daishinsai for the 1995 devastation mainly in the city of Kobe and Awaji - Shima the northern part.
