Hanum is a district of Jübar in Altmark Salzwedel in Saxony- Anhalt, Germany.

Geography

Hanum is located in the transitional area between the Altmark and the Lüneburg Heath in the melt-water channel of the ear. The source of the ear is just a few kilometers north of Hanum in Ohrdorf. The town lies on the border of Saxony -Anhalt Lower Saxony and thus on the former inner German border. The center is located about 78 meters above the sea level. Hanum is largely surrounded by fields. Only in the north a larger forest belongs to the district.

History

The oldest traces of settlement dating back 4000 years. The village complex is a Rundling in a horseshoe shape and well Wendish origin. The first written reference 1315. The church was built in the 12th century, the tower was built in 1860. Already in 1732 there was the first schoolmaster in the village. According to a survey carried out in 1847, land consolidation continued in Hanum a positive economic development. 1850 a windmill was built, which was until 1927 in operation. A school house was opened in 1858. From 1911 to 1968 Hanum was connected by a small railway Altmark light railway for passenger and freight transport to the rail network. The passenger was discontinued in 1961.

During the communist era Hanum was a site of a company of the Border Troops of the GDR. The safety systems on the road to Zasenbeck were opened for the first time on the night of 31 December 1989 to 1 January 1990 for a short time. At the inner German border today a memorial stone in place.

Through a field amendment agreement, the municipal councils of the municipalities Bornsen decided ( on 25 May 2009 ), Hanum ( 3 June 2009 ), Jübar ( 3 June 2009 ), Lüdelsen ( 13 May 2009 ) and Nettgau ( June 4, 2009), that their communities are dissolved and merged into a new community with the name Jübar. This agreement was approved by the county as a lower municipal supervisory authority and entered into force on 1 January 2010.

Hanum has been built in the shape of a Wendish Rundlingsdorf. This form has been retained up to the present time and is still clearly visible. In the middle of the village are the church and an old forge. The coat of arms symbolizes the area from the village. This originally consisted of seven founders courtyards. In the half-timbered building of the flower shown below in the coat of arms is carved above the door. The wavy line in the upper part symbolizes the stream of the ear.

Economy and infrastructure

The place is dominated by agriculture. There are also little small businesses. Hanum has a volunteer fire department. Public buildings such as sports halls or library are located in Jübar.

Approximately one and a half kilometers southwest of Hanum runs the federal highway 244, about which one reached the next station: Witt rings on the railway Brunswick- Uelzen, 13 kilometers northwest of Hanum.
