The Hanze Groningen is the largest establishment of the Hoger beroepsonderwijs (HBO) (roughly equivalent to a college in Germany ) in the north of the Netherlands. The Hanze Groningen, also referred to as " Hanze ", was founded in 1986 and has since expanded steadily. Of the more than 25 000 students in 2010 were nearly 1,700 students of foreign origin. In total, over 2700 people were employed at all locations.

The training offered by the Hanze includes 19 different faculties, 70 bachelor's degree programs, 4 programs for vocational qualifications, 17 master's degree programs, courses in Dutch, English and German and courses offered by the internal commercial service HanzeConnect.

Locations of Hanze located in the Dutch city of Groningen ( head office), Assen, Leeuwarden in the north of the country and in the capital Amsterdam.

Motto of the University

The motto of the university reads: " Share your talent. Move the world " ( to German as: parts your talent move the world. ). This should be expressed that the student is offered more than the receipt of a diploma, according to the Hanze. It should also talent while studying are taught, which further acts after graduation. According to this motto, the college is also a co-sponsor of the regional campaign "City of Talent" ( to German about: City of Talents ), which aims to promote Groningen position as a forerunner in the field of research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Since 2009 takes place regularly election to the students of the year. It is chosen by the student with the highest Participation Council initiative and the best ideas. 2009 was the title of the Small Business & Retail Management students Jochem Mossel. 2010 acknowledged the Human Technology student Willemijn Tomson from the title. Both were particularly appreciated for their innovative product ideas.

History

Groningen is the second oldest university town in the Netherlands, and has two major universities: the University of Groningen and the Hanze Groningen.

The Hanze Groningen was founded in 1986 as a combination of several recognized regional educational institutions. The latest expansion took place with the Academy Minerva, School of Fine Arts, Design and Pop Culture, held in 2000. Since this exists already since 1798, the existence of the institution of this year is counted. Thus, they had their 210 th anniversary in 2008. In the area of education and training internationally, the Hanze was the first university in the Netherlands, which started an International Business School in their offer. This Faculty was established in 1997.

The name " Hanze " refers originally to the term " Hanseatic League", a medieval association of various Hanseatic cities, including the Netherlands, Germany and England. Objective of the consortium of the Hanseatic cities was to be able to pursue their own commercial interests safely and profitably.

Not least because of its large number of foreign students and international specialties as well as teaching English and German, the Hanze has built a reputation as an international college in the course of its history. The university also participates in the ERASMUS scholarship program, offering its students worldwide currently around 70 partner universities.

Compared to all colleges of the Netherlands Hanze total reached the second place in the category of student satisfaction. In the academic counselor Hoger Onderwijs Keuzegids ( to German as: Handbook for choosing the college ) lands the Hanze compared with other part -time courses at colleges overall on the first place. Even with the full-time courses intersects the Hanze with some programs out on top, including, without limitation music, electrical engineering, social - Legal Services and MBRT ( to German as: Medical design and radiotherapeutic techniques ). The Keuzegids will be published annually on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Education as a book and CD -Rom and a comparison of almost 1,300 courses, which were evaluated by consumers.

Organization

Organizational structure

The Hanze Groningen employs more than 2,700 people and has more than 25 000 Dutch and foreign students who are enrolled in one of the 70 courses. The courses are offered in a total of 19 schools in the fields of business and management, engineering, health and sports, social care, art, music and dance.

Management

The general management of the Hanze Groningen is the responsibility of the Executive Board ( Executive Board and Supervisory Board together). Among the members of the Chairman and PräsidentHenk Pijlman, Marian van Os and Han de Ruiter.

Locations

The headquarters of the university with the majority of faculties is located on the campus Zernike Groningen. Individual buildings, however, are spread over the whole city. In Assen is the Hanze Institute of Technology. In Leeuwarden, the Academy of pop culture, which is part of the Academy Minerva, their location. In Amsterdam, there is finally the university Dansacademie Lucia Marthas. This works in conjunction with the Dansacademie Noord -Nederland, which is based in Groningen.

Culture

Cultural Activities

At the Hanze there are various associations that organize cultural activities, such as the CAST ( Cultural Activities for Students). Sports Facilities

The ACLO is the sports center of the Hanze and is operated in conjunction with the University of Groningen. For just € 50, - annual fee to use the facility students of the two universities. KEI- week

The KEI- week (Dutch KEI- week) is the general introduction week for all students in Groningen in the first semester. With a total of a year more than 4000 Dutch and international students with the KEI- week is the largest such event in the Netherlands. During the week, students can participate in various activities and events to explore the city with its many facilities and already know other students.

City of Talent

Together with the University of Groningen, the UMCG Groningen hospital and the Municipality of Groningen leads the Hanze the campaign " Groningen, City of Talent" by. The campaign aims to promote Groningen position as a forerunner in the field of research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
