Happy Rockefeller

Margaretta Large Fitler Murphy "Happy" Rockefeller ( born June 9, 1926) is the Nelson A. Rockefeller's widow, the former Vice President of the United States.

Life

Even as a child was the great- great-granddaughter of George Gordon Meade, a general in the Union Army during the Civil War, due to their happy disposition nicknamed "Happy". In 1945, she married James Slater Murphy, a virologist at the Rockefeller Institute was. The marriage produced a son and three daughters were born. In April 1963, the couple divorced.

Three months later she married the former New York governor Nelson Rockefeller, who had previously also divorced in the year of his first wife. The two sons of the couple were born in 1964 and 1967. With the appointment of her husband to the U.S. Vice-President in December 1974, it became the Second Lady of the United States, which it remained until January 1977.
