He came in 1942 released through the intercession of Hamsun's wife Marie and his son gates, but was allowed to conduct the publisher by the end of the war, not back to where Tore Hamsun became acting director. The work of his brother Nordahl Grieg in resistance was together with his arrest in to secure the publisher a good reputation. 1945 broke Grieg with Hamsun, not to apply this as a collaborator. Later he changed his attitude and financed in 1948 by Hamsun's condemnation its fine by mortgage of shares and a retainer fee. After some hesitation, he published in 1949 On overgrown paths and in 1951 a new edition of the collected works of Hamsun. Today it still retains the publishing rights to Hamsun's works.
