Harald Irmscher

Harald Irmscher ( born February 12, 1946 in Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. ) Was soccer player in the GDR Oberliga, football national player of the GDR and football coach.

League players

Harald Irmscher began in 1955 at the BSG activist Karl Liebknecht Oelsnitz to play organized football. Until 1962 he held there and the student and youth teams then moved to the GDR Oberliga BSG Motor Zwickau, where he was first employed further at youth level and at the same time completed an electrician apprenticeship. On October 10, 1963, the 1.80 m wide midfielder came to his first international use, as he played the first of his four junior internationals. His first league Match of Irmscher as inside-right forward on 9 August 1964 in the encounter Motor Zwickau - Lok Stendal (2:1). After he had in 1966 become a football player, expected the GDR Football Association that Irmscher would join a top club. This was done after the end of the league 1967/68 season with the change to the newly elected East German champions FC Carl Zeiss Jena. With the Jenaern Irmscher 1970 GDR champion and in the years 1972 and 1974 DDR Cup winner. After 202 league point games, 38 national and 42 international cup matches Irmscher ended in 1976 with a commitment to FC Carl Zeiss. He then moved to the second-rate DDR League to bismuth Gera, where he once again rose in 1977 for one year in the league. At the end of the season 1977/78 Irmscher ended his career as an active football player.

National players

After Irmscher had denied on September 5, 1965, the first of seven junior internationals later, began his career in the A-team on September 4, 1966 in the encounter DDR - Egypt ( 6:0 ). In October 1974, he ran the match against Scotland for the last time in the GDR jersey. Overall, Harald Irmscher came on 41 'A' matches with four gates or after FIFA standards in 36 games with three hits. He participated with the East German national team at the World Cup 1974. From 1967 to 1972, he played twelve games with the official football Olympic team of the GDR and participated in the 1972 Olympics where the East German team won the bronze medal. Irmscher, however, was not used in the match for third place.


After his playing career was Irmscher youth coach in Jena. Subsequently he was assistant coach of the 1983-1988 GDR national team Bernd Stange. In 1988, the coaching team was recalled after a 1-3 defeat in Turkey. 2005 Harald Irmscher was again assistant coach Bernd Stange - this time the Cypriot football club Apollon Limassol. During the winter break 2006/2007 Irmscher was terminated for economic reasons; on rod also left the club. From July 2007 to 2011, he oversaw turn as an assistant coach on the side of Bernd Stange the national team of Belarus.
