Harald Karger

Harald Karger ( born October 14, 1956 in Weilburg ), called skull - Harry, is a former German football player who has played between 1979 and 1983 28 Bundesliga games for Eintracht Frankfurt.

Playing career

Karger had been transferred as A teenager from his home club TuS Waldhausen to FC Burgsolms, where he had played for another year in the A- youth, five years in the first team of the country division. On the recommendation of his former coach Nicholas Semlitsch he joined in 1979 as a professional to Eintracht Frankfurt. Semlitsch had once been working for Kickers Offenbach in the German Bundesliga, the arch- rival of concord.

Successful Karger was first primarily as track and field athlete, he won in 1977 the Hessian Championships with 10.7 seconds in sixth place in the 100 meter sprint.

Even in his first season as a professional footballer, he was able to achieve 9 goals in 23 games. Also in the UEFA Cup, the Hessians were able to win in the end, Karger scored 6 goals for the harmony, including the final first leg against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Already hailed as emerging Bundesliga star in the storm, Karger but suffered in that game after he stepped own information in a lawn hole, tore a ligament in his left knee and then had to finish his career in 1983 after only 28 league games.

Popular Karger was also known by the nickname Skull Harry, who had been given to him by tabloid journalists, after he had achieved some of his goals with head balls. However, the nickname gave the false impression that Karger was a so-called " head specialist " such as the simultaneously active Horst Hrubesch. Kargers actual strengths were against quickness and athleticism.

After the active career

After initial engagements with various amateur clubs Karger was until the summer of 2009, one of 20 youth coaches in the football school of Eintracht Frankfurt and worked together with former Eintracht sizes as Charly Korbel, Ralf Weber and Norbert Nachtweih. After that he was, inter alia, Coach of the first team of the group division side TuRa Niederhöchstadt (Group League Wiesbaden). Since September 2010, Harald Karger is coach of the district 07 Oberliga Limburg (prefecture Wiesbaden). He runs the Harald - Karger Football Academy - HKFA in Weilburg, be promoted in the talented youth soccer players aged 6 to 11 years old. He lives in the Weilburg district Kubach.
