Harald Lander

Harald Lander (aka Alfred Bernhardt Stevnsborg, born February 25, 1905 in Copenhagen, † September 14, 1971 ibid ) was a Danish dancer and choreographer.

Lander was at the Ballet School of the Royal Theatre with Hans Beck and in 1923 a member of the Ballet Company. 1926-27 he studied with Michel Fokine. He continued his education in the United States in Fokine, Nikolai Tarasov and Adolph Bolm leave before he returned as a principal dancer for the Royal Ballet.

1931 was the first ballet in his choreography Gaucho. From 1932 to 1951 he headed the Royal Ballet as ballet master. He brought Fokine's Les Sylphides as masterpieces, Petrushka and Prince Igor to Copenhagen and led choreographies August Bournonville scratch. Even he choreographed over thirty ballets, including Football ( music by Francis Poulenc, 1933), Bolero (music by Maurice Ravel, 1934), The Little Mermaid (music by Fini Valdemar Henriques, 1936), The Seven Deadly Sins (music by Kurt Weill, 1936), The Sorcerer's Apprentice (music by Paul Dukas, 1940) and Étude (music by Karl Czerny, arranged by Knudåge Riisager, 1948).

In 1951 he went as a choreographer at the Paris Opera, 1956 he became a French citizen. Here he choreographed et al Printemps à Vienne ( music by Franz Schubert, 1954) and Concerto aux étoiles (music by Bela Bartok, 1956) and led choreographies by Vincenzo Galeotti as The Whims of Cupid and Les Indes Gallant scratch. Also Étude came to the re-enactment in Paris. He also led his own and works by Galeotti and Bournonville, inter alia, with the Companies of the Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas, the London Festival Ballet, the American Ballet Theatre and the La Scala in Milan.

In 1962 he returned to Copenhagen and led next to the old Les Victoires de l' own works on amour (music by Jean -Baptiste Lully, 1962). Lander was verheiret three times: from 1931 to 1950 with the dancer Margot Lander, then to 1965 with the dancer Toni Lander, finally with Lise Lander. He was honored in 1951 as a Knight of the Dannebrog and has received the Medal of Honor of the City of Paris.
