Hardtwald

The Hardt forest (the name probably comes from the field names " Hardt " ) is a historic woodland in the Upper Rhine Plain between Rastatt and Schwetzingen / Oftersheim, north and south of Karlsruhe. As the largest and best-known forest area of this region is designated on the right bank high shore as Hardt after him the landscape. Nordhardt

History

Until the founding of the city of Karlsruhe in 1715 the Hardt forest was still a contiguous forest area. Margrave Charles III. Wilhelm of Baden- Durlach, first built a castle with a network of paths through the Hardt Forest, which also served as a hunting ground him.
