Hardy County, West Virginia

Hardy County is a county located in the state of West Virginia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Moorefield.

Geography

The County is located in the northeast of West Virginia, on the east by Virginia and has an area of ​​1514 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hampshire County, Frederick County ( Virginia), Shenandoah County ( Virginia), Rockingham County ( Virginia), Pendleton County, and Grant County.

History

Hardy County was formed on October 17, 1785 from parts of Hampshire County. It was named after Samuel Hardy, a lawyer and statesman from Virginia and a member of the Continental Congress.

According to the census of 2000, there were in Hardy County, 12,669 people in 5,204 households and 3,564 families. The population density was 8 people per square kilometer.
