Hardy Nilsson

Hardy Nilsson ( born June 23, 1947 in Skellefteå ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player and current coach.

Career

As a player

His professional career began in Hardy Nilsson 1965 in his hometown at the local club Skellefteå AIK. After the striker had with the club in the first division, then top division in Sweden played the first two years, the club was relegated for the first time. As a coach

At the beginning of his coaching career, he returned to the place of his greatest success as a player back. In 1985 he was engaged by the Cologne Sharks as the successor of Josef Golonka. As a player he already succeeded in his first year of great success, and he celebrated with the sharks the championship. In the season 1986/87 he managed with the KEC, the first team since 1971 to defend the title. And in the third year with Nilsson at the band won the sharks the championship. Thereafter he remained for another four more years, with the biggest successes in this period were the third place in the European Cup in 1989 and the runner-up in 1991. For the 1993/94 season Nilsson began involvement in the EC Hedos Munich. The occupied with many stars team he won the 1994 German Championship. After the founding of the DEL for season 1994/95, however, was the rapid fall of the renamed Maddog in Munich club. From 2000 to 2004 he was coach of the Swedish national team. During this time he won with the team at every world championship medal. But a title he could not get with the Tre Kronors. In 2000 he was first elected best coach in Sweden and awarded as Årets coach. The same ten years later he succeeded again. After he was replaced as national coach, he took in 2005 to a range of Austrian first division side Red Bull Salzburg. With the Salzburg team he reached in the 2005/06 season as the best team in the preliminary round play-offs, but it lost to in the finals of the EC VSV. The following year, he stood with the people of Salzburg again in the final against VSV - but this time he could win the title. After Salzburg, and was succeeded by Pierre Pagé, he became head coach at Djurgårdens IF the Swedish Elitserien.
