The Harish - Chandra Research Institute (HRI ) is a leading research institution in India in the field of mathematics and theoretical physics, based in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.

The Institute is autonomous and was founded in 1966 by the Department of Atomic Energy ( DAE), Government of India. Originally, the BS Mehta Trust affiliated in Calcutta, it was renamed to October 2001 as Mehta Research Institute (MRI).

The HRI is named after the mathematician Harish - Chandra.
