Harm Ottenbros

Harm Ottenbros (* June 27, 1943 in Alkmaar, Netherlands ) is a former Dutch cyclist.

Ottenbros began his pro career in 1967 and finished it in 1976., The greatest triumph of Ottenbros was winning the Road Cycling World Championship in 1969 in Zolder, Belgium. Ottenbros benefited from the fact that the best racers less striving for victory, but that the Belgian Eddy Merckx after an outstanding season not yet world champion. Since Eddy Merckx but could not stop any breakaway alone, the previously unknown Ottenbros got away with the Belgians Julien Stevens and beat him in the final sprint for a few centimeters.

However, the profit brought him no happiness, but only envy and resentment. After a number of health problems Ottenbros ended his career in 1976 and turned away from cycling completely. To illustrate this, he threw his racing bike from the Zeeland Bridge in the Oosterschelde.

Since the end of his racing career Harm Ottenbros works with mentally handicapped and is considered a good sculptor and painter.
