Harmut Rohde

Hartmut Rohde ( born April 28, 1966 in Hildesheim ) is a German violist and professor of viola at the University of Arts in Berlin.

His musical education began with the first violin lessons in Celle. In 1978 he moved to the viola. 1985 to 1993 he studied with Hatto Beyerle, former violist of the Alban Berg Quartet, at the Academy of Music and Drama Hannover. In 1990 he won the Prize of the German Music Competition, 1991, he was awarded at the International Naumburg Competition in New York. From 1998 to 2012, he was a founding member of the Kandinsky String Trio. Since 2000 he is member of the Mozart Piano Quartet with worldwide performances including New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Sydney, São Paulo, Vienna, inter alia, he was appointed professor at the Berlin University of the Arts in 1993. Since 2001 he also teaches regularly at the Royal Academy of Music in London, whose Honorary Members it was 2008. Hartmut Rohde gives master classes at home and abroad, is a chamber music partner of internationally renowned soloists and ensembles such as David Geringas, Jörg Widmann, Jens Peter Maintz, Pascal Devoyon, Lauma Skride, Boris Pergamenschikow, Michael Sanderling, Janine Jansen, Christian Tetzlaff, and the Leipziger String Quartet, the Vogler Quartet and the Auryn Quartet. He is a member of the Berlin Soloists octet and Geringas baritone trio.

As a soloist and chamber musician, he performs at renowned festivals and performing with renowned orchestras such as the Staatskapelle Weimar Orchestra Bonn's Beethoven Hall, the Hanover Radio Philharmonic, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Lithuania or the National Orchestra Beijing. Hartmut Rohde has published numerous CDs, including EMI, Decca, Sony BMG, Naxos or on the German label Music Production Dabringhaus & Grimm. His students hold positions among other things with the Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Dresden Semper Opera and Ensemble intercontemporain or Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Rome and are winners of international competitions. His former students include, among others Julia Rebekka Adler, Sascha Frömbling, Yung- Hsin Chang, Martin of the Nahmer or Joaquin Riquelme. Since 2013 he is active as a conductor with various orchestras, including the Wroclaw Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum.
