The Charokopio University or Charokopos University (Greek Χαροκόπειο Πανεπιστήμιο ) is a public university in Greece. The official headquarters is in Athens, the university buildings are located, however, in the suburb of Kallithea.

The university was founded in 1990. It evolved out of Charokopio - house business school that existed since 1929.

History

The university is by Panagis Charokopos (Greek Παναγής Χαροκόπος; 1835-1911 ) named. He was agricultural adviser to the Romanian King Carol I and later Greek deputy; in his will he decreed the establishment and financing of a school for the academic training in home economics. For this purpose he had in 1906 acquired a plot of 20,000 m² in the village of Kallithea, in the 1915 to 1920 the school was built. A new wing was added in 1959. The complex housed the " Charokopio College " until 1990, when the Charokopio University was founded.

The university today

At the Charokopio University study about 700 students. This makes it the second- smallest university in Greece. On the other hand, increase the number of students compared to other universities in Greece percentage strongest at. The infrastructure is at a high level, the buildings have been fully restored and a new building for the newly established Department of Geography and the library built in 1999-2000, in 1993/ 1994. A new building outside the campus to expand the end of 2011, the infrastructure of the university.

The Department of Geography is with 16 other European universities part of the European Spatial Development Planning Network

Faculties and Institutes

The courses offered by the University Charokopio cover areas that are unique or relatively underdeveloped in Greece.

There are four departments, each offering bachelor's degree programs:

  • Department of Dietetics and Nutrition
  • Department of Geography
  • Department of computer science and telematics
  • Department of Home Economics and Ecology

Accordingly, there are four postgraduate programs, each with three disciplines.
