Harold Connolly

Harold Joseph Connolly ( born September 8, 1901 in Sydney, Nova Scotia; † 17 May 1980) was a Canadian journalist and 1954 Liberal Prime Minister of the province of Nova Scotia.

Life

He began his career at the Halifax Chronicle until he became editor in chief for Toronto Daily Star. In 1936 he was elected to the provincial legislature and in 1941 Minister. As the reigning Premier Angus L. Macdonald died in the province in 1954, Connolly took office and the transitional presidency of the Liberal Party. As a Catholic, he was faced with at the party a front Protestant delegate and missed the re-election. In 1955 he ended his involvement in the province politics when he was elected to the Canadian Senate. This office he held until 1979.
