Harold Gilman

Harold Gilman (* February 11, 1876, † February 12, 1919 ) was an English Post-Impressionist painter.

With Walter Sickert 1907 he became a founding member of the Fitzroy Street Group ( London). In 1911 he founded with Sickert, Camden Town Group ( London). Both groups embodied not the main line of English painting at this time, but dealt with subjects, such as portraits or landscapes. Gilman was influenced by van Gogh, Cézanne, Gauguin and later by Matisse. His realistic, mainly limiting on the primary and complementary colors painting is characterized partly by short remote brush strokes.

Gilman died in 1919 at the Spanish flu swept through Europe.
