Harold L. Ickes

Harold LeClair Ickes ( born March 15, 1874 in Franktown Township, Pennsylvania, † February 3, 1952 in Washington DC ) was an American politician who belonged to the U.S. cabinet as Minister of the Interior from 1933 to 1946.

Ickes made ​​in 1897 at the University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in order to subsequently work as a newspaper reporter for the Chicago Record and later for the Chicago Tribune. In 1907 he earned his doctorate as LL.D.

His political career began with the Republicans before 1912 joined the Progressive Party of Theodore Roosevelt.

In 1933 he was appointed by Franklin D. Roosevelt to the Secretary. He held this position until 1946.
