Harold MacMichael

Sir Harold Alfred MacMichael GCMG DSO (* October 15, 1882 in Birchover, Derbyshire, † September 19, 1969 in Folkestone, Kent ) was a British civil servant in colonies.

Biography

MacMichael studied at Magdalene College, Cambridge. After the civil service exam, he became a civil servant of the British Empire in the colony Sudan. In 1915 he was promoted to Senior Inspector in Khartoum and 1926 Civil Secretary.

From 1933 to 1937 he was Governor of Tanganyika. The following year he became High Commissioner in the British Mandate of Palestine, where the Jewish terrorist organization Lehi an assassination attempt was made ​​on his life in 1944, but this failed. Then he was sent to Malaya, where he was involved in the founding of the Malay Union and the Constitution wrote. He later took a job in Malta.
