Harold Osborn

Harold Osborn ( born April 13, 1899 in Butler, Illinois, † April 5, 1975 in Champaign, Illinois) was an American athlete who was successful in the 1920s in the decathlon and high jump. He set two world records in 1924, two -time Olympic champion.

Career

He rose in the years 1920 to 1923 of 1.83 m to 1.99 m, after he had led in 1922 with 1.98 m the annual global leaderboard. A year later (1924 ) he twice improved at an Olympic competition preparation in Urbana, Illinois the world record: 2.0258 in the first trial and 2.038 in the second attempt.

Osborn is the only Olympic decathlon champion that is capable of winning a gold medal in an individual competition. He is also the only decathlon world record holder, who held the world record at the same time in a single discipline. His decathlon world record with 7710.295 points he scored in the 1924 Olympics in Paris, where he won the same in the high jump with 1.98 m ( 2.02 m at the then issued it failed ).
