Harpo (singer)

January Harpo Torsten Svensson, artist name Harpo, ( born April 5, 1950 in Hagen band, now in the Stockholm district Vantör ) is a Swedish pop singer. His stage name is a homage to his idol, the American comedian Harpo Marx.

Career

1976 Harpo became famous with his song Movie Star, the song became a summer hit of the year. The singer then was not, as is sometimes read in the production company of ABBA under contract, but the ABBA singer Anni -Frid Lyngstad sang the backing vocals on the English and Swedish versions of Movie Star.

Movie Star was in Germany 30 weeks on the charts, including 17 weeks under the five best-selling singles. Succession Hits Harpo had until 1978 Motorcycle Mama and Horoscope. He wrote all the songs themselves

Since the 1970s, he is married and lives on a farm in Sweden, where he breeds racehorses. 1977 Harpo was jailed for four weeks for refusing military service. In 1980 he had at a trot race training in a serious accident with an erupting horse that inflicted him with severe facial injuries. He lost the sight of his right eye largely. He then underwent multiple cosmetic surgeries. Since the late 1990s, Harpo also appears on German television and at festivals Oldie back to his old hits.

Harpo occurs barefoot and wearing dark sunglasses. Another trademark is a walking stick with a bicycle bell.

The singer is committed to animal welfare.
