Harri Stojka

Harri Stojka ( born July 22, 1957 in Vienna) is an Austrian guitarist, composer, arranger, bandleader and singer, who is regarded as one of the most important Austrian jazz musicians of our time. " Harri " comes from the Lovara Roma dynasty from the tribe of Bagareschtschi and is one of the most famous Roma in Austria. His world music influenced music style is also called " Gipsy Soul". He also plays with success also swing -oriented music. Furthermore, it is Harri Stojka at the Vienna Gipsy Music School and the Vienna Music Institute (VMI ), a Viennese private conservatory, a lecturer.

Life

The Austrian jazz guitarist Harri Stojka began his career in 1970 with the formation Jano Harri Stojka in the arena. Soon after, the young autodidact rose as a bass player in the band of Karl Ratzer Gipsy Love, and distinguished himself as a guitarist for Peter Wolf's " objective Truth Orchestra". The Vienna Harri Stojka comes from a Lovara Roma dynasty, which came 150 years ago from Wallachia and settled in Vienna to live and work. The family had to complain many casualties in World War II - 200 relatives survived only a few family members, the concentration camps and the infamous death march. Again and again committed to Harri Stojka in projects that are dedicated to the memory and the processing of this time. So will the resulting 2005 CD " Garude Apsa " / "Hidden Tears " remember the musical roots of the Roma in order to give the present generation pride and courage for the future. In a Europe that is increasingly politically committed to the Roma culture, Harri Stojka has called the action "I am against the word Gypsy and Roma for the word " to life, causing the public and international interest.

Harri Stojka has achieved something that many wish - to create his own style of guitar playing and to be recognizable after just a few notes in the solos as Harri Stojka. What Harri Stojkas guitar playing is makes his virtuosity paired with blues feeling, the special drive, the phrasing and the sound of his gypsy jazz acoustic guitar. It is available in many styles of music at home, from pop to avant-garde jazz, gypsy swing to bebop, from hard rock to heavy metal. With this versatility, and with the permanent further development of his music Harri Stojka has influenced many Austrian guitarist and is committed to young musicians. He is not thinking of the Austrian music history away and already a legend, in all this but a modest and likeable person.

2005 Harri Stojkas CD "A Tribute to Swing" was nominated in Germany for the Echo award - for best CD production from abroad. 2011, the film " Gypsy Spirit Harri Stojka the trip" was a musical journey through India in search of his Roma roots awarded a Romy: for best feature documentary in Austria.
