Harrison County (West Virginia)

Harrison County is a county located in the state of West Virginia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Clarksburg.

Geography

The County is located in north-central West Virginia and has an area of ​​1079 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Marion County, Taylor County, Upshur County, Lewis County, Doddridge County and Wetzel County.

History

Harrison County was formed on May 3, 1784 from parts of Monongalia County. It was named after Benjamin Harrison V, a North American plantation owner and a leader of the American Revolution. As one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, he is one of the founding fathers of the United States.
