Harrison Kelley

Harrison Kelley ( born May 12, 1836 Montgomery Township, Wood County, Ohio; † July 24, 1897 in Burlington, Kansas ) was an American politician. Between 1889 and 1891 he represented the fourth electoral district of the state of Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Harrison Kelley attended the public schools of his home and moved in March 1858 in the Coffey County, Kansas. During the Civil War he was a volunteer in a cavalry unit from Kansas. He brought it up to the captain. After the war he became brigadier general of state militia.

Kelley was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1868 and 1870 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Kansas. He also headed 1868-1873 the penal institution of the state. In the years 1877 and 1878, Kelley worked for the Land Authority in Topeka. After that, he was from 1880 to 1884 Member of the Senate of Kansas. Kelley was also deputy director of finance authority ( Internal Revenue ) and chairman of a committee which dealt with the sanitary problems in livestock. In 1889, he was treasurer of the Welfare Committee of Kansas.

Following the resignation of Congressman Thomas Ryan Kelley was elected in 1889 in the state- wide election held to his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he finished between 2 December 1889, 3 March 1891, the legislature Unopened his predecessor. After he retired from politics. Harrison Kelley died in July 1897 in Burlington, and was also buried there.
