Harro Heuser

Harro Heuser ( born December 26, 1927 in Nastaetten; † 21 February 2011) was a German mathematician. He is best known for his two-volume textbook on calculus, which has become a standard work.

Harro Heuser studied 1948-1954 mathematics and physics at the University of Tübingen and graduated with a state exam. He then completed a doctorate on operators with finite defects in Helmut Wielandt in Tübingen in 1957 and 1962, the Habilitation at the University of Karlsruhe. The following year, he became a professor at the Pedagogical University of Kiel ( now part of the University of Kiel ), 1964 Scientific Council and an adjunct professor at the University of Mainz. In 1968 he was appointed full professor at the University of Karlsruhe and worked there until his retirement in 1996. Harro Heuser also completed a visiting professor in the United States, Colombia, Canada and Italy.

Especially after his retirement Harro Heuser also wrote popular science books in which he is mainly concerned with cultural and historical aspects of mathematics and physics - in particular the history of ideas - dealt. His textbooks are characterized by detailed historical notes.
