Harry A. Pollard

Harry A. Pollard (born 23 January 1879 in Republic City, Kansas; † July 6, 1934 in Pasadena, California ) was an American actor, director and screenwriter of the silent film and early sound era.

Career

Pollard began his career in 1912 at the Selig Studios as an actor. Among other things, he played in a 1913 film adaptation of the novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. Since 1912, he also led in numerous short films and focused completely after 1916 to his activities as a director. Since the late 1920s under contract at Universal Pictures, he made 1927 another film adaptation of Uncle Tom's Cabin for the studio. In 1929 he directed the film version of Show Boat expensive based on the novel by Edna Ferber. Laura La Plante, Joseph Schildkraut and Alma Rubens played key roles in the film, which was initially shot as a silent film. In the post numerous some passages were deposited with a sound track. In 1930 he moved to MGM, where he was responsible for the disaster around Great Day. The shooting of the film with Joan Crawford were completely discontinued after a few weeks. In 1931, he finished his career with The Prodigal, an operetta with Lawrence Tibbett and Esther Ralston and A Feller Needs a Friend, a comedy starring Jackie Cooper.

Pollard was married to the actress Margarita Fischer.
