Harry Abend

Harry evening ( born May 5, 1937 in Jarosław, Poland) is a Venezuelan architect and sculptor.

Life and work

Born to Jewish parents in Poland Harry evening with his family immigrated in 1948 to Venezuela, where he attended the Colegio Moral y Luces and the Liceo Andrés Bello in Caracas. He then studied at the Universidad Central de Venezuela ( UCV ) architecture. His career began in 1958, however, as a sculptor. His biggest role model was the Venezuelan sculptor Miguel Arroyo ( * 1920 in Caracas ).

Harry evening works mainly with the materials of wood, stone and bronze. It handles many elements of the architecture in his sculptures, such as doors, walls and gables. In addition, he also designed jewelry.

With his sculpture Forma 1961 he won the Art Prize 1963 Premio Nacional de Escultura the Salón Oficial de Arte Venezolano. Together with the kinetic artist Jesús Rafael Soto, he received an important commission for a relief at the top of the pyramid- shaped concert hall Teatro Teresa Carreño going on at the Parque Caobos in Caracas. Also for the synagogue of the Unión de Caracas Israelita he created a sculpture. 1964 was evening one of the assistants of the British sculptor Kenneth Armitage at the Instituto de Diseño Neumann and the INCE. In 1990 he was awarded the Francisco de Miranda Medal 1st Class.

Evening presented in many museums and galleries in North America, South America and Europe. In the sculpture park of the Museo de Bellas Artes de Caracas his sculpture Homenaje a Miguel Arroyo (1974 ) is shown.
