Harry Babcock

Harry Babcock (actually Harold Stoddard Babcock; * December 15, 1890 in Pelham Manor, New York, † June 15, 1965 in Norwalk, Connecticut) was an American pole vaulter and Olympic champion.

1911 Babcock was 3.86 meters world best years, the unofficial world record of Leyland Scott stood at 3.93 meters.

The official world records have introduced it only in the year. The American Marc Wright was 4.02 meters, situated at the U.S. Trials, the first official world record holder. At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 Wright ranged but only 3.85 meters for the silver medal. Because Babcock jumped over 3.95 meters and won gold. Babcock joined also in the decathlon, but gave in three competitions on.

Harry Babcock was 1.88 m tall and weighed in his playing days 75 kg. He had an engineering degree from Columbia University and worked as a timber merchant in Irvington (New York).
