Harry Donald Carson (* November 26, 1953 in Florence, South Carolina ) is a former American professional American football player at the position of the inside- linebackers. He played from 1976 to 1988 for the New York Giants in the National Football League ( NFL). Carson is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

College career

From 1972 to 1975 Carson played as a defensive end for the team of the South Carolina State University under Willie Jeffries and won with his team twice in a row, the Mid - Eastern Athletic Conference. During this time he was elected as the first player twice in a row at the best defender of the Conference and 1975 All American. He was nominated for his performances in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2002.

NFL Career

Carson was selected in the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. Here he was employed in the position of linebackers. In his first season he was appointed to the All- NFL Rookie Team. In 13 seasons, he managed to intercept eleven balls ( interception ), to capture 14 fumbles and to score a touchdown. Ten years he led the Giants as team captain. Overall, he was nominated nine times for the Pro Bowl six times and to the All Pro team. Together with Carl Banks and Lawrence Taylor, he formed the central part of the defense of the New York Giants, who set several records under the nickname " The Big Blue Wrecking Crew". Under head coach Bill Parcells and defensive coordinator Bill Belichick, he won the 1986 Super Bowl XXI. For his achievements he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010.

After the professional career

Carson worked after his retirement from professional sports as a sports commentator. He also runs his own company, which offers consulting and advertising in sport. Together with Carl Banks and other former teammates of the Giants he had shares in the New Jersey Red Dogs, an Arena Football League team. Carson has suffered since his retirement from professional sport in the aftermath of numerous injuries. With it the post- concussion syndrome, has been diagnosed that it returns to its greater than 15 concussions. He committed to ensuring that concussions and head trauma have been recognized as the cause of disease by the NFL and players are better supplied by suffered concussions.
