Harry Ellis

Harry Alistair Ellis ( born May 17, 1982 in Wigston, Leicestershire ) is a former English rugby union player. He played as a scrum half for the English national team and the Leicester Tigers.

Career

Ellis began his career with six years in the South Leicester RFC, later played one year for the Wigston RFC before he was transferred to the Academy of the Tigers in 1997. He ran for the regional selection of Leicestershire and was also nominated for the youth national teams of England. In 2001 he ran for the first time on the men's team for the Tigers against Stade Toulousain and was appointed at the end of his first season for the young player of the season.

Ellis was in November 2004, his debut for the national team against South Africa as a substitute. It was used in all matches of the Six Nations in the years 2005, 2006 and 2007. Due to a torn ligament in his knee he could not participate in the World Cup 2007 and only returned in November 2008, back in the England ranks.

In 2009 he was nominated for the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa. This year he won the English championship with Leicester and reached the final of the Heineken Cup, which was however lost to Leinster.

In July 2010, Ellis announced his resignation, citing ongoing knee problems.
