Harry Gordon Selfridge
Harry Gordon Selfridge ( born January 11, 1858 in Ripon, Wisconsin, USA, † 8 May 1947 in London, United Kingdom ) was an American businessman.
He worked for the retailer Marshall Field in Chicago and introduced innovations such as an annual clearance sales and Grabbeltische. There he made it to the junior partner. 1906 Selfridge went into retirement after he bought the department store Schlesinger & Mayer five million dollars and sold after only three months. The following year he moved to London. There he opened on 15 March 1909, the department store Selfridge & Co. or short Selfridges in London's Oxford Street. 1939 Gordon Selfridge resigned as CEO.
