Harry Irving Thayer

Harry Irving Thayer ( born September 10, 1869 in Pembroke, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, † March 10, 1926 in Wakefield, Massachusetts ) was an American politician. In the years 1925 and 1926, he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Harry Thayer attended the public schools in Hanover. He then worked in the leather industry. He was founder and president of the company, Thayer- Ross Co. From 1916 to 1921 he served as president of the New England Shoe and Leather Association. In the years 1920 and 1921 he was also president of the American Council of Gerber ( Tanners ' Council of the United States ). At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. In June 1924 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, was nominated to the President Calvin Coolidge for re-election.

In the congressional elections of 1924, Thayer was the eighth electoral district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Frederick W. Dallinger on March 4, 1925. He could exercise this office until his death on 10 March 1926. Following a special election its predecessor Dallinger was also chosen as his successor.
