Harry J. Davenport

Harry James Davenport ( born August 22, 1902 in Wilmerding, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, † December 19, 1977 in Millvale, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1949 and 1951 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Harry Davenport attended St. Peter's Parochial School and the McKeesport High School. He then worked as a newspaper publisher. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In 1946, he sought unsuccessfully to have his party's nomination for the congressional elections. In the 1948 elections, he was but then in the 29th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Republican John McDowell on January 3, 1949. Since he has not been confirmed in 1950, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1951. This was marked by the events of the Cold War.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Harry Davenport worked as an editor and bookseller. In 1960 he applied again unsuccessfully for the nomination of his party for the congressional elections. He died on 19 December 1977 in his last place of residence Millvale and was buried in North Versailles.
