Harry Reasoner

Harry Reasoner ( born April 17, 1923 in Dakota City, Iowa; † August 6, 1991 in Westport, Connecticut ) was an American journalist. He was known in the U.S. for his inventive word choice in TV commentaries.

Curriculum vitae

Reasoner studied journalism at Stanford University and the University of Minnesota. He served in World War II and then resumed his work as a journalist at The Times Minneapolis again. In 1948 he moved to CBS, where he worked for radio. Later he worked for the United States Information Agency in the Philippines. After his return to the U.S. he went to television, where he worked in Minneapolis for the TV channel KeyD -TV ( later KMSP - TV) worked. Reasoner then moved to New York where he was, alongside his work as a commentator and newscaster who hosts a news magazine called Calendar.

In 1968, Reasoner teamed up with Mike Wallace to moderate the news magazine 60 Minutes. In 60 Minutes, as well as on other occasions, he often worked with the producers and writers Andy Rooney, who later became known himself as a journalist.

Reasoner moved in 1970 to American Broadcasting Company (ABC ) to become newscaster at the evening news ABC Evening News with Howard K. Smith. 1976 Smith left ABC, so that Reasoner was the sole spokesman. From 1976 to 1978 he also hosted the news along with Barbara Walters. Walters and Reasoner understood, however, not very good, which is why Reasoner in 1978 went back to CBS. He joined the cast of 60 Minutes in again and remained there until his retirement in May 1991.
