Harry Segall

Harry Segall ( born April 10, 1892 in Chicago, Illinois, † November 25, 1975 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California ) was an American novelist and screenwriter who won the 1942 Oscar for best original story.

Life

Segall began his career as a screenwriter in the film industry in Hollywood at the William Cameron Menzies from 1932 staged horror film Chandu the Magician with Bela Lugosi in the title role. In addition to the templates and scripts for 28 films, he also wrote plays such as Lost Horizons, which was performed from October to December 1934 56 times in the St. James Theatre on Broadway.

He celebrated his greatest success with his play mistake in heaven ( Heaven Can Wait): For this, he won at the Academy Awards 1942 Oscar for best original story for the film under the title holiday from Heaven (1941 ) by Alexander Hall with Robert Montgomery, Evelyn Keyes and Claude Rains. 1947 Hall turned with a goddess on earth a sequel to the film, this time with Rita Hayworth, Larry Parks and Marc Platt in the lead roles.

Due to the success also came later remakes of the substance of Heaven Can Wait: First in 1978 with the title The Heaven Can Wait by and starring Warren Beatty and co-director Buck Henry, starring Julie Christie and James Mason in other roles, on the other 2001 under the title Down to Earth by Chris and Paul Weitz with the main actors Chris Rock, Regina King and Chazz Palminteri.
