Meaning of the name

It is assumed that " harp " is derived from the Old Saxon " horsa " = horse, so the name Harsefeld is to be interpreted as " field of horses ."

However, there is also a theory which states that " harp " of millet come.

Another tradition states that the name Harsefeld was given by the first settlers. These have had, according to tradition, a blind horse so run until it stopped at a juicy pasture to graze. Then the settlement " Harsefeld " was founded on this same pasture, which certainly, as described above, from the Old Saxon word " Horsa " is to derive horse.
