Harshavarman II.

Harshavarman II († 944, also Brahmaloka ) was 941-944 king of the Khmer Empire. Like his father, Jayavarman IV ( 928-941 ) he resided about 120 kilometers northeast of Angkor in Lingapura, today Koh Ker and not in Yashodharapura (Angkor ) or in Hariharalaya ( Roluos ).

Life

Harshavarman II followed his father Jayavarman IV ( 928-941 ) in the year 941 to the throne. An inscription indicates that he was not the designated heir to the throne. Presumably he tore with the support of his cousin Rajendravarman II power for themselves. The reign of Harshavarman II in Koh Ker only lasted three years; it is questionable whether he died a natural death. His cousin Rajendravarman II, who had once helped him to the throne, took power and moved to the old capital Yashodharapura (Angkor ) back. None of the numerous temples in Koh Ker is due to Harshavarman II.

Harsharvarman II was posthumously given the name Brahmaloka.
