Hart Benton Holton

Hart Benton Holton ( born October 13, 1835 in Elkton, Cecil County, Maryland, † January 4, 1907 in Woodlawn, Maryland ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Hard Holton attended the public schools of his home and then the Hopewell Academy in Chester ( Pennsylvania). In 1857 he moved to Baltimore. Between 1857 and 1873 he worked as a teacher in Alberton. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1862 and 1867 he was a member of the Senate of Maryland. Since 1873 he lived in Woodlawn, where he raised horses.

In the congressional elections of 1882 Holton was in the fifth electoral district of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Andrew Grant Chapman on March 4, 1883. Since he has not been confirmed in 1884, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1885. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives to Holton retired from politics. In the following years he worked as a rancher. He died on 4 January 1907 in Woodlawn and was buried in Baltimore.
